I read this in the questions from this site:

http://www.funtrivia.com/en/Music/Cradle-of-Filth-12789.html

I belive it because it has a lot of accurate questions and answers.

Bump
Any proof yet folks?

Well, before they were Cradle of Filth they went by Burial. It could've been then that they wore the masks.

Those questions and answers are kind of all over the place though:

Who joined Cradle of Filth on the "Gods of Darkness" tour in 1997?

Old Man's Child, Gorgoroth and Einherjer. This tour was probably the last "black metal" tour of their career.

WTF?

Dani, whose middle name is Lloyd, has vocal talents like no other

Really?

What was Dani's first ever band called?

The Lemon Grove kids. The band was a punk band, influenced by the Misfits.

We don't know that. It could also have been PDA or Feast on Excrement.

What song does not directly speak the name of Elizabeth Bathory?

Mother of Abominations. "Mother of Abominations" makes no reference to Elizabeth Bathory.

Stupid question, but even weirder answer! Why Mother of Abominations?! Every song that's not on either Cruelty or Dusk makes no reference to Bathory ...

"Funeral in Carpathia" is Cradle of Filth's first song to use Elizabeth Batohry's name.

Is it? I thought it was Dusk and Her Embrace.

What two videos were directed by Alex Chandon?

"Her Ghost in the Fog" & "From the Cradle to Enslave". He also directed "Cradle of Fear" featuring Dani and the rest of the band in cameos.

And "No Time To Cry". And yes, this page was made after it came out presumably, because they reference Nymphetamine.

So I wouldn't believe everything on there. It seems mostly user-submitted anyway. I never heard anything from any band member about mask-wearing. It's probably a rumour, like the one that Dani has two masters degrees in Literature.

I think Paul Ryan confirms it in the 'From the cradle to the grave' documentory...

Benjamin Ryan confirmed it in the Documentary "Covered in Filth" which I own and will post a picture to confirm that I do own it. If I had a way to hook up my pc to a VHS I would snapshot the picture in question. I can try downloading the DVD and taking a snapshot, unless someone else finds the picture. There is video footage of them with the mask on. They are not Slipknot like mask at all. There more on the lines of something like that you apply on your face which can be removed, but it was not paint. The time period this occured was with the Ryan twins, Allender, Dani, Nick, and not sure who played bass at that time, though I know it was for sure not Robin.

Anyone that has seen this video knows this has been confirmed. Due note, this lasted a VERY short time an the downfalls of this is what led them to try out corpse paint.

There is another picture of me with the VHS also in my profile. Its awaiting approval.

My bad, its the one called "From the Cradle to the Grave" DVD. It's like one of the few unoffical releases of this band. The others are "Maximum Filth" which is an audio documentary, and the other is a COVER/TRIBUTE album to CoF called "Covered In Filth".

Now that I feel a bit daft, I can still post a picture of the VHS tape, or you can just google it to see the cover. Kind of feel like I have to take a picture of it to back up the correction an error I made :P
